3 Best Anime Games for Xbox in 2023
Xbox is a console that, since its first iterations, has lacked some of the more cult classics like Final Fantasy or Y’s. But that changed with the wild success of the 360. Currently, it holds the title for the most expansive catalog of games available, from AAA brand new titles to some of the older classics, which you can only play on Microsoft consoles due to high backward compatibility. And with the addition of the Games Pass, now many PC exclusives and Nintendo switch are also coming to the console. These also include anime games; some of the best are mentioned below.
Table of Contents
Figure 1. MELTY BLOOD: TYPE LUMINA
Platforms - Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Windows, PlayStation 4
Types moon nowadays is known mainly for its animation and the adaptation of the Fate series, but Types moon has also made a name for itself in the fighting game genre with the Melty Blood series, named MELTY BLOOD: TYPE LUMINA. Many believe this is as good, if not more significant, than the ArcSystem Works games. It is based on Tsukihime “A Piece of Blue Glass Moon,” which holds up to the tradition of Types Moon’s other projects with a weird and overly complex story that fans love. The arcade mode and small story bits offer a glimpse into the world, but the main focus is combat.
It is a simple three-button combo system at its core until you start to utilize the other techniques, such as the special counters, which can either block an attack or block your combo to trigger a special attack. Moon icons represent a new aspect as they allow newer players to learn the mechanic while starting the special moves and give veterans of the series a way to break the game in half with high-skill plays. With a diverse set of characters with different kits, you will no doubt find a favorite to play with. The excellent net code will allow you to play with your friends online, even with a Wi-Fi or lousy connection, with no lag. It is a title that has cemented its name in the eSports scene with its excellent systems and high level of freedom of playstyles.
Figure 2. RemiLore: Lost Girl in the Lands of Lore
Platforms - Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows
Anime dungeon crawlers are not new, as they have existed since the 90s, but when you add rouge-like elements with a superb art style and a fun story, you have a game that stands out from the rest, such as RemiLore: Lost Girl in the Lands of Lore. Many studios miss the mark when creating an endearing title. They will either over-design the characters or under-develop the gameplay. Remilore, on the other hand, the dose does not fall into those traps. The story is about a girl tasked to clean a dusty library and soon finds a strange book.
Upon further investigation, the book is sentient and teleports the girl to a long-lost world. Book then tells the girl Remi its name is Lore and that to escape this world, she will have to defeat different robots and monsters scattered around. Remi has access to three other skills and a normal attack which she can chain to deal more significant damage. At its core, it is a procedurally generated rouge meaning that the levels change every time you die. The enemy designs and variety keep the game from getting too stale, and the difficulty also helps keep things fresh. It is a fun title that will give any anime fan a great experience.
Figure 3. AI: THE SOMNIUM FILES
Platforms - Xbox One/Series X&S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Microsoft Windows
A good mystery and thriller are only as good as the narrative and context surrounding them. Games of this nature need to thread an excellent line between being too pronounced and too convoluted. AI: The Somnium Files might seem the latter at times, but by the end, it will have taken you on a roller coaster of emotions and narrative plot twists that will destroy any preconceived stereotypes you might have of the game from playing it before.
The story begins with a murder being reported at the carnival, with the main character, Kaname Date, and his robotic assistant Aiba. As you investigate the scene and gather the evidence, you suddenly hear some commotion only to find a girl holding the ice pick, seemingly used to murder the woman. The girl is Miyuki, who is under your care, and the woman found dead and tied to the merry-go-round is her mother. From here, the narrative unfolds. The best way to describe the game would be to call it a modern point-and-click adventure game with different sequences from different genres. One must play it to understand, as the plot is highly engaging, and the gameplay is one of a kind. It is a must-play for any anime, true crime, or supernatural fan.
