3 Best Anime Games on Oculus Quest 2 in 2024

Gaming has evolved from the simple pixels of the 70s, the 2D sprites of the 80s, the voxels of the 90s, and the aftereffects of the 2000s to the current photo-realistic games that this generation is known for. Yet we continue to innovate, which was why Virtual Reality or VR games were created. They were a proof of concept, but developers ran with it and refined the tech with games upon games. The current iteration of VR is Oculus Quest 2, and it has a host of games, many of which are anime based, and some of the best are mentioned below.

Table of Contents
  1. Little Witch Academia: VR Broom Racing
  2. ALTDEUS: Beyond Chronos
  3. BEAT ARENA

Little Witch Academia: VR Broom Racing

Figure 1. Little Witch Academia: VR Broom Racing

Platforms: (Oculus Quest, PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows)

Little Witch Academia started as a simple animation on youtube to then be animated by Trigger and streamed by Netflix. It has gained a massive following and many games in its comparatively short time. One of those titles is Little Witch Academia: VR Broom Racing which lets you experience the world and characters of the series in a far more immersive way. The narrative opens with our custom-picked avatar as we start our first year in the witch academy. Soon you get to witness the anime’s main cast as the magical energy goes haywire. To combat the students decide to use their brooms to hold a tournament of sorts, allowing them to utilize the copious amount of mana present.

The central racing portion is intuitively designed as it does not cause severe motion sickness with extended use. You follow a track in the air outlined with magical circles and littered traps or power-ups. One of the characters from the cast will team up with you as you proceed to maneuver your way to victory. The broom can also be upgraded in a couple of ways, such as changing the crystal that powers it or buying a brand new one from the prize money you get from winning the races. It also features an online mode that allows players to free roam on an expansive map and interact with others. The intuitive controls of the Oculus Quest make it easy to control the player and interact with the characters, all of whom are voiced by the original cast. It is a game that fans of the series will be sure to enjoy.

ALTDEUS: Beyond Chronos

Figure 2. ALTDEUS: Beyond Chronos

Platforms: (Oculus Quest, PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows)

A visual novel might not come to mind when one thinks of VR, but the immersion and emotion it provides the player are undeniable. This can be seen in Altdeus: Beyond Chronos, a noncanonical sequel to Tokyo Chronos set around 1000 years from the events of that game. Altdeus stars Chloe as the main character. She is a soldier created from a test tube to serve Prometheus’s goal of protecting the earth from extraterrestrial threats known as Meteora. The game is a slow burn as you will be introduced to the characters and narrative bit by bit. Chloe, at first, is only driven by revenge for the being that killed her friend Coco. But after the Meteora that killed Coco returns, she is thrust into a web of political conspiracies and betrayals.

The game features a few key mecha battles, which are beautifully animated and interactive. Most of the game is spent with characters talking, and the model and background art has been improved trifold compared to the previous game. The central system is the Libra mechanic, which allows the player to make decisions at pivotal points and shows the effects it will have on the characters. Libra system is not just a game mechanic as it is justified by lore and everyone has access to it. This plays a role in the underlying narrative of the game. If a system guides everyone, then no decision has any human agency. It all ties back to one of the endings of the main story but was it the actual ending? This question will have you play the game repeatedly to see the multiple endings. It is undoubtedly one of the best VR games, a must-play for anime fans.

BEAT ARENA

Platforms: (Oculus Quest, Android, Microsoft Windows)

Rhythm games have been a staple in the industry for a long time, and games like Guitar Hero were responsible for introducing a whole new generation to rock n roll music. But those games required you to buy expensive proprietary controllers to feel like a true musician. Konami’s Beat Arena, on the other hand, just requires you to have a VR headset, as it promises to let you play with any of the four instruments included in VR. Instrumental versions of some of Konami’s most famous games are also present and allow you to jam it out like it’s the 80s. The aesthetics, background art, and models all make you feel like an anime pop ideal performing for a live audience.

The four instruments included are the guitar which is the most iconic and fun to play. The keyboard features the most complex and rewarding system to play. The Drummer set requires you to manage a whole bunch and drum to the beat. Last but not least is the Bass which surprisingly has the best controls in the game. You can pick any of the instruments to play with, and the remaining will be AI controlled, which can lead to fun scenarios in which you set the beat or have to follow the lead of your bandmates. It is the best anime rhythm game in the VR market and a must-play for anime fans.

As to Revolt proj, then I guess your point is that you are looking for an alternative to discord due to security concerns. hm but I think anyways DIscord provides high-level of security though, as it now requires you to connect your phone to account in order to log in.

Revolt project looks pretty much set to be the perfect encrypted and open source discord alternative, i say we set a precedent by setting up the official server there

As to why Revolt Project, well. there have been privacy and data worries about discord in the recent years or so

Sorry i've been dealing with someone with apnea over the past few months, but ugh. hopefully things will get better

Alright, the apneic guy i'm with now has a Airsense 10 Auto (nasal)set CPAP. I'm just relieved to not listen to that guy having severe OSA 45+ AHI events choking and snorting themselves into heart failure or a stroke. Minimum pressure 6.8. max pressure 20. Going to also test it on myself to see what these apneic people have to deal with as well. The mask and machine noises will definitely take some getting used to (It actually sounds like a big dog or cat or a cheetah quietly breathing in sleep), but I can't wait to see the results after this guy gets a full night's sleep. Things are finally looking up after a very long time. With this my constant rage and anxiety attacks (part of the reason i've been down these past few months) are also starting to drop off from hopefully not talking to a forgetful, demented-like idiot now that they'll hopefully start remember things (and generally be more interesting to talk to rather than annoying) and with it i'm starting to regain the will to resume my hiatused projects

um what about just using a discord? i see no point of using discord alternative personally but if you have your opinion please explain.

Yes, that's the one. I believe this would be a excellent chance to have our own open source server compared to discord
