Steam the once-niche storefront for Valve is now the leading herald for PC gaming. Not only does it feature some of the best games on release date, but it also does not discriminate between AAA and indie—an aspect that has led to the success of genre-defining games such as Undertale and Terraria over time. But aside from these types of games Steam has also played a massive role in the success of Anime games. A once-forgotten and unloved category of games, with the help of Steam, has reached heights like no other. Some of the most popular games in said category are as follows:

Modern society is a truly mysterious one as on the one hand it supports people and their mental illness, while on the other hand, it suppresses anyone who does not comply with its narrative. This is even more prevalent in a country such as Japan which puts extreme emphasis on conformity, an aspect which the country relies on greatly. It is also the backdrop for the insanely famous JRPG from Atlas Studios Persona 5 Royal, a game that oozes the rebellious teen spirit. Based on a series of events taking place in the heart of Tokyo, we will follow the story of a teen who was wrongfully accused by the system and left discarded. This is his tale of rebellion against the system that wronged him, and while many might know him by different names he is famous for only one, Joker of the Phantom Thieves. On the side of the gameplay Persona 5 Royal follows in the footsteps of greats such as SMT 3 Nocturne and uses a modified press turn system which not only makes turn-based battles more fun but also makes the player strategize beforehand and on the spot. So all in all, if you wish to see the physical embodiment of Nirvana’s Teen Spirit then look no further than Persona 5 Royal.

Tales is a series that needs no introduction to the initiated as it is one of the oldest running action RPGs on the market as of now, one that boosts one of the strongest lineups of games in a series period. Of which the latest entry is the critically acclaimed Tales of Arise, a game that in both narrative and gameplay is the logical conclusion of Bandai Namco’s growth. The narrative of the game is a commentary on the social class system and its lasting impact on the growth and development of future generations. It also tackles modern problems with allegories in a very subtle way. As for the gameplay, it stays true to the spirit of the series and has some of the best action gameplay yet, even beating out the latter half of Vesperia and Besteria. All of this is due to the new element-based system which allows players to string together combo after combo, but do be warned it requires quite a hefty amount of skill to master and patience on top of that to use effectively. So if you which to play a game that melds the old and new in a narrative like none other then Tales of Arise is the game for you.

Last on the list we have a game that has straight-up dominated the Steam charts from the moment it was launched. It is a game that masterfully recreates the forgotten sensation of the 90s and gives players the most authentic experience of their childhood ever. It is none other than the Yu-Gi-Oh! Master Duel, is the master full recreation of a once beloved franchise. To say that the game lit a fire in the dying Yu-Gi-Oh! fandom would be an understatement as it has now been fully revitalized and remade the full fandom. All of it is due to the perfectly crafted gameplay of the game which focuses on the PvP aspect so much that it perfectly recreates the current meta of the IRL card game. Alongside this, it also has the advantage of having every card since the series inception in it and having them all balanced to ensure a good game. So if you wish to take a trip down memory lane and witness a game from the good old days then this is the one for you.
