3 Best Anime Waifu Games in 2023
Anime has many reasons to love and appreciate it, but one of the most important for many are waifus. People will no doubt find characters that they like and gravitate toward them. This will cause those characters to become waifu if they are female or husbando if their male. But not all waifus come from animes. Some of the most famous ones have come from gaming, and below are a few games that feature them.
- Genshin Impact
Platforms: GeForce Now, PlayStation 4, Android, PlayStation 5, iOS, Microsoft Windows, iPadOS
It is safe to say that the gaming landscape has changed since 2020 all because of Genshin Impact. Before it, no free-to-play game was released with this much polish. It has a great story, fun combat, and exploration that will be right at home for the breath of the wild fans. But its most defining characteristic for many was the characters. While being a gacha game at its core, it allowed players multiple ways to get their favorite characters without needing to bust out the wallet every time. This allowed players to pick and choose whom they liked from various characters.
Characters are also not one note as they play critical roles in developing the plot and narrative, already setting them apart from other gacha games. Combat is a mix of fun hack and slash with a layer of strategy in elemental skills and how they react with each other. Every character has a unique skill set inspired by their back story and role in the plot. Graphically the game is gorgeous as it has an expansive open world that allows players a significant degree of freedom with gliding, swimming, and climbing. And who knows, you might even encounter a mini-boss while exploring. The multiplayer aspect is also quite good compared to other games in the genre, as it allows players to join each other in monster raids, dungeons or even explore together.
Genshin Impact is not just another gacha game; it is a game that features an intriguing narrative and a rich cast of characters. It is a must-play for anime fans as, who knows, it might hold your next waifu.
- Fate/EXTELLA LINK
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Android & iOS (Japan Only), Microsoft Windows, PlayStation Vita
The fate series is known to every anime fan as the one with great visuals and a female author. But aside from anime series and movies, the fate series has extended lore surrounding it. This came about through the games. Fate has many game series, including games such as Fate Grand Order or Fate/ Extra. Fate/Extella Link is one such game. It is set in an alternate timeline with some new and some old servants and follows you as you protect the ancient world from an invasion of machines. You, the master, can’t fight directly, but you can call upon the aid of your servants, who are the series’ bread and butter.
Combat is in the style of Muso hack-and-slash games. This is the most fun a Fate game has been in combat, as you can easily take down hordes of weaker enemies with flashy skills and weapons and truly feel like an influential historical figure. There are 26 servants in the base game, with more to be added via DLC. Each servant has a unique skill set and attacks inspired by their real-life counterparts’ history. The Noble Phantasm also appear as their ultimate moves reference the servant’s historical feat or battle. Such as Gilgamishes Gates of Babylon. The story takes you through turbulent times as you try to fend off the new enemy that has arrived while ensuring your servants survive.
Fate/Extella Link is most accessible for anime fans to get into the series, which will no doubt give them an enjoyable time while also having the best waifu of the past decade.
- Catherine: Full Body
Atlus nowadays is known mainly for the Persona series and by older fans for the SMT series. In all of the hype of these series, Atlus’s other games have been forgotten by many, which is a shame as one of Atlus’s original games has arguably the best story ever. The game’s name is Catherine: Full Body. It is the remaster of the original Catherine and has an entirely new storyline that helps tie up loose ends and tell a fantastic story.
Compared to the rest of the Atlus catalog, Catherine tells a self-contained interpersonal story of a man named Vincent Brooks as he gets caught up between different women. With full body, the number of women Vincent can interact with is increased to three. This includes Katherine, Catherine, and Qatherine. The story follows Vincent as he is put in a hard place as he can’t decide whether he wants to marry Katherine (whom he is dating) or not. This indecision and alcohol led him to sleep with another woman named Catherine. This is where the game starts, as nightmares hound Vincent in his sleep. In these nightmares, he has to escape by climbing blocks in what looks like hell. This requires forethought, as the blocks below affect the ones at the top. When Vincent is not in his nightmare, he is in the Stray Sheep Bar, where he can interact with other people, make choices, and listen to Qatherine play the piano.
Catherine is a game in which decisions matter greatly, as you will be held accountable for everything you do. It is by far the most unique game Atlus has created, with better-written female characters than even the Persona series.
Hopefully, you found these games to your liking, and who knows, maybe you found the game with your next waifu or husbando.
