Hundreds of New RTS games are being released every year, and various classic RTS games are still being played, so here is the list of the best PvP RTS games that you can enjoy right now.

Real-time strategy games are enjoyable due to many different features, such as building and managing your army and using it to wipe your enemies out. Guilty Gear 2 Overture is an real-time strategy game that was released in 2016 on Windows Steam by Arc System Works. The game on Windows version is a remake of an earlier title on Xbox 360 version but it is still considered to be one of the best RTS games combined with fighting game elements. As a whole, it's a great fighting RTS title with replay value shown through its unique story mode and online modes which allow players to fight other players from around the world.

It is set in the 22nd century when the country of Illyria was under the rule of Ky Kiske. Two heroes, Sol Badguy and Sin Kiske, are traveling together in the world. It has been years since the gears have been locked, and they are now vanishing. Ky Kiske is now facing problems as his country is being attacked by some mysterious forces of the dark world. After seeing that his army can’t control the situation, he calls both heroes for help, but his way of calling is very unprofessional. He has sent out a wanted poster with the face of Sol on it.

Armaegis developed by Dreamstudio lets you duel with players so you can test your attacking and defending skills. It features a variety of different units that you can use in battle. Your goal is to fight till you reach their final line of defense. As you play more, you will learn about the strengths and weaknesses of your units as well as the units of your enemies.

Change your strategy after each battle to stay one step ahead of your rivals. All the player-vs-player battles are time-based, so you have to score better or defeat the rival before the time ends to win the round. View all the available cards and land them on the board according to the strategy.

Eternal Return

Eternal Return is one of the best RTS games on this list, which was released in 2020. It features survival elements along with a PvP battle arena to provide the best of both genres. In one round, eighteen players land on an island, and they have to fight till the last man stands. You can collect weapons from the map and upgrade them. Each character has strengths and weaknesses, so you have to choose a character rightly.

These fights are just experiments of an organization named AGLAIA as they want to create an elite species of human. Those who survive till the end are picked up by the organization, and they will use their DNA for the creation of a new species. After they get what they want, they wipe the memory of the test subject to prepare for the test session.

The TouHou Empires

Now on the list we have the latest entry in the line of Touhou games and from the looks of it, it seems to be one that will stray far from the once humble roots of the main series. Because Neetpia the developer of said game is hoping to branch out the series into a new genre. That being the Real Time Strategy genre or the RTS genre for short. It also happens to be a genre with one of the oldest esports history in the world and was one of the first ever to adopt a PvP format. Neetpia seems to be inspired by this and specifically the Age of Empires series, as from all the footage and data shown about the game we can easily see a heavy influence of the series mechanics.

The Touhou Empires will have a core gameplay loop based around base building and will be more focused on macro management rather than the micro aspect. It will transform the unique characters from the series into units with all new models that will no doubt finally give some well-deserved love to the supporting cast of the Touhou series. It is also given that the game will have a dedicated PvP skirmish mode for online players, as many games that are inspired by the early 2000s RTS series are required to have it, not only as a tribute but as a genuine game mode to test the absolute limit of the system. So if you are in the mode for a series that has the potential to reignite the dying fire in this once-beloved genre then this game is for you.

Now last on the list we have a game that not only takes inspiration from two of the most famous RTS games of the 2000s but also adds its own new and original spin to it. It is none other than the Star Maidens Chronicle: Definitive Edition. Developed by the somewhat obscure PROJECT YNP, it is one of the first RTS in modern memory to have such a distinct and identifiable art style. As for its inspirations, it seems to have taken the core combat and loop of the game from the highly acclaimed Age of Empire series, and the era aesthetics seem to be a recreation of the famous Shougan 2 from the Total War series, albeit in their own style.

As for gameplay, it is quite simple, you create workers to gather materials, use materials to conquer, and rinse and repeat. Now it might seem weird to a normal PvP player, as the game lacks the complexity other games are known for. But alas that is the beauty of this game as simplifying the process of the core gameplay removes factors such as meta strategies from the equation, which only leaves the pure skill of the player. So to win the game not only will you have to play better than your opponent you will also have to plan 10 steps in advance and also be ready to throw those plans out the window, because as a great leader once said plans never survive the first encounter with the enemy. So if you wish to experience something new in the RTS genre then this game is for you.
