This game is quite meaningful and fun in a way that it is made with an unique view among many anime games: orthogonal camera view. As of 2022 February probably this is only the anime game providing orthogonal view like RTS games. Most anime games provides perspective camera view which is used for FPS or TPS games in order to let players look closely their kawaii anime characters. In a such viewpoint, this game is quite unique.
About difficulties, League of Legends splits players into 2 teams (1/2) and you have average 50% winrate when your skills are very average. However, for this game it is 1/19. In other words, you have no choice but to have a winrate of about 5% when you have an average skill. So it's difficult. But these difficulties will keep you playing for quite long time.
The game itself is very fun. Highly recommended if you enjoyed something like League of Legends, but somehow you turned into a weeb who decided to play anime games instead.
Despite Eternal Return has very unique game system, competitive and fun, the only downside of Eternal Return is that the game balance is not good and very unstable. For example, see dak.gg (live statistic website of the game). The difference in winrate between the lowest tier character (Glove Nicky, average 3.2% winrate as of February 26, 2022) and the top tier character (Assault Rifle Aya, average 24% winrate as of February 26, 2022) is a whopping 24/3 = 8 times. The gap between character balances are way too huge. Sadly, this gap goes even worse when it comes to duo and squad where premades are allowed. Check the gap between character winrates in that same dak.gg website page for duo and squad then you will see why. It becomes like 3% vs 48% between lowest tier character (e.g.Whip Laura has 3% winrate in squad as of Feb 27, 2022) and highest tier characters (e.g.Throw Celine having 48% winrate in squad as of Feb 27, 2022) in which the gap is even 48/3 = 16 times. I personally think the reason why the game is unbalanced and unstable is because they make way too much patches frequently for really unnecessary things that are not about new contents. Of course, this is not a bad sign as a fan of the game since developers do show they do care of their game. However, balance patching way too much frequently that never showed any stable balance yet also mean a sign of implicit that the game balance is very unstable.
In other words, you should be able to play dozens of different characters, dealing with balance issues that are constantly changing from patch to patch. At the months I have been playing this game, I saw that every 2~3 weeks they patches the balance (sometimes ever more frequntly with a name of "hotfix"). Every time that patch thing happens, the game just changes entirely. It just makes whatever working build you use suddenly may not working every 2~3 weeks. Thus, that means you will have to play lots of different characters and only then you can win well even after each patches happening every 2~3 weeks by watching at what is op thing on dak.gg livestat website and play op things atm. Thus, you will spend lots of time into this game by mastering as many characters and weapons as possible.
If you like customizing your own characters like MMORPGs, there's very high chance that you won't like it. Because you like to play this game as a single character, but the game's balance system will never allows for that.
But anyways for me PvP experience of this game was quite fun which made me focus on the game for over 1000 matches, which is huge time.
