I play 2 games on pc, one is Super Mecha Champions (SMC) and the another one is Kurtzpel. I started Kurtzpel PvE first, then SMC, then Kurtzpel PvP after a month. I am basically a beginner to both 2 games' pvp. By looking at Twitch viewer count on both games, it looks like both game have very similar population. However, I personally felt higher barrier to Kurtzpel PvP over SMC PvP as a beginner to enter into due to following reasons, again, personal thought.

(Lots of combos... per weapon)
One problem I felt in Kurtzpel is that game is too much combo-dependent that forces people to practice on making as longest combo as possible. More specifically, unlike SMC being typical FPS game in which everyone played such FPS genre in their lives at least once, Kurtzpel in-game system is very unique. It's like side-scrolling fighting game that fits well with joystick got converted to 3D game that fits well with KBM that nobody would have experienced before. Thus, this game and its combo system takes a lot of practice time for beginners to get used to. Most of them, actually most of people, would probably not be able to overcome stresses which they have to endure from losing many many games until they get used to the game's combo system, like seeing my character getting died from nearly 100% hp to 0% by some infinite combo, either by single or multiple enemies, for more than 5~10 seconds without being able to do anything in that whole seconds. I expect beginners usually press all the buttons repeatedly in the case like this, but they will see nothing works, totally exhausted and quit the game lol. Anyways in this case only some genius gamers who are basically fast learners will benefit too much from my guess.
