The Secret of Popular PvP Genres

#1
Anime PvP Game Ranking on Steam
[Image: M8zgNFa.png]

Looks like working pvp genres are:

1. 1v1 + Something
2. Battle Royale + Something
3. MMO with High quality PvP Content (Perhaps? as only MapleStory confirms this theory but no others)
4. A fusion of at least 3 subgenres  (Perhaps? as only Omega Strikers confirms this theory but no others)
5. Waifu Gacha PvP (Perhaps? as only CounterSide confirms this theory but no others)

* Not shown in this chart, but there is also another successful "1v1+RPG" anime game called Pokemon Scarlet / Violet.

My Viewpoint:
Looks like "1v1+something" is doing slightly better than "Battle Royale+something" in anime PvP gaming area, I think that is becuz massively multiplayer Online PvP games are currently dominated by western games such as Fortnite, League of Legends, Volorants, etc, which means most non-weeb people (I mean just normal people who are not anime-otaku) will always pick out such games to play instead of "Anime BR" or "Anime TDM" games at 90% chance.

Additionally, Japanese developers seem to have the Samurai Spirit that makes them good at creating fairly high-quality 1v1 fighting games that people can play without considering about whether it's anime art or not. And also western games are not that much focusing on 1v1 genre except Mortal Kombat thing. So 1v1 is currently best working and open niche market in the anime pvp game industry, otherwise one has to compete Fortnite, League of Legends, Volorants, etc so, which is very hard.

Well, 1v1-supported anime RTS is currently on its development named "The Touhou Empires", a bit resembling Age of Empires instead of StarCraft. And 1v1 FPS genre would also be working if it follows 90s most popular 1v1-focused fps game called "Quake 3 Arena". There are many 1v1 tournament videos of Quake 3 Arena on Youtube, like the one below. Personally I don't see any better 1v1 mechanic than Quake 3 Arena when it comes to 1v1 FPS genre. If you know, please inform us.

This is a fascinating viewpoint! It makes sense that 1v1 genres would be thriving, especially since they offer that intense, personal competition that can appeal to both casual and hardcore gamers. The fact that Japanese developers have honed their skills in creating high-quality 1v1 experiences is definitely a plus for them in the anime PvP market. And yeah, the Western market focusing heavily on massive multiplayer games certainly creates an opportunity here.
About "The Touhou Empires" development, that's something to look forward to! It's exciting to see how they might blend the iconic real-time strategy mechanics with a 1v1 structure. And as for a new 1v1 FPS that could rival Quake 3 Arena—well, that's a tall order! Quake 3 Arena really nailed that fast-paced, skill-based combat; anyone trying to create a similar experience has big shoes to fill. But hey, you never know—there could be new innovations waiting to emerge that might surprise us all. If any promising new titles come up, I'll be sure to give a shout-out!

Personally, I haven't seen a 1v1 FPS game that surpasses Quake 3 in terms of 1v1 PvP mechanics of FPS genre. Does anyone know of one any better than that in 1v1-focused FPS?
