3 Best FPS Games Single Player 2024

Evolution is a concept that took mankind centuries to grasp and to this day it can be found in multiple things that we interact with. But while natural evolution is a long and methodical process, certain types of evolution have been facilitated by mankind. Chief amongst them is the medium of entertainment. Because as with the progression of technology media from a few years ago seems dated and obsolete nowadays. A fact that stands most true for gaming as it saw the creation of all new genres and their subsequent fall all in a few years. But amongst these failures once in a while, a genre will come and elevate the medium as a whole and become a mainstay in pop culture. A genre just like First Person Shooter or FPS for short, but alas a mere mention can not do it justice. So the following are three of the best FPS games that represent the best aspects of the genre as a whole.

Table of Contents
  1. Trianga's Project: Battle Splash 2.0
  2. The Citadel
  3. Twilight Town: A Cyberpunk FPS

Risk has become enemy number one for game development in recent years. This is due to the relatively lower standard of quality players are willing to accept and the rampant infestation of early-access games in recent years. But once in a blue moon developers decide to make a bold move and create a game that hinges on a ludicrous narrative and has some of the best-optimized gameplay for a single-player FPS. In that case, it will either be memed to death or have a cult of dedicated players originate around it that will swear by the name of the game. Well in the case of Trianga's Project: Battle Splash 2.0 the latter was the case, and with due reason. The game is one of the most unique and unforgettable single-player experiences on the market due to a combination of a wholly unique idea and relatively no competition at all. Aside from the narrative of aliens and water gun-wielding soldiers, the gameplay is tight and optimized for single-player. Meaning that no combat encounter on any difficulty is impossible to complete, but that isn't to say that it is easy. As it has a perfect blend of difficult encounters and bombastic set pieces. So if you are bored by the repetitiveness and jank of modern-day Call of Duty then Trianga's Project: Battle Splash 2.0 is the game for you.

The Citadel

The name of DOOM is a cultural landmark in not only gaming but pop culture itself. Because for many it was the first time they had seen video games in the news, while for others it was the technological leap that was needed to break from the 2D into 3D. And while yes, DOOM is not a 3D game one cannot deny its role in triggering the next big paradigm shift. Though the game is now considered to be an outdated piece of history, many games still use the building blocks of the game to create new ones. Key amongst them is The Citadel a game that not only pays homage to the classic but also adds all the new quality-of-life features to the old formula. The first major difference is the replacement of the hit scan mechanic with a projectile-based one, a small change but one that has major ramifications for how players tackle the combat. Speaking of combat the game has 10-plus weapons for the player to choose from each of which can be upgraded and used to turn enemies to dust. So if you are in the market for a game that is equal parts classic and equal parts modern with a dash of insanity sprinkled in then The Citadel is the game for you.

Twilight Town: A Cyberpunk FPS

Last on the list we have a game that instead of taking inspiration from the classics is based upon the shooters of the late 90s. And while this period might not have the same amount of reverence as the early 90s did, this was the period where many of the best boomer shooters were made. It also shows the mainstream recognition of the FPS genre, which is why  Twilight Town: A Cyberpunk FPS plays more like a modern shooter with a coat of nostalgia. A fact that would have been a downside for the game, where it not be optimized to perfection.  Sigyaad Team the developers of the game seem to have struck gold as the game plays better than even some modern AAA games. Much of this is due to the weapon, enemy, and sound design. Each weapon is specially designed to give an advantage against certain enemies and vice versa. What elevates it to the next level are the sounds of the gun which managed to convey the power and raw destructive force of each of the weapons. So if you wish to play a game to scratch that nostalgic itch then Twilight Town is the game for you.
