[General] Anime...Games?

#1
Hello, Dvoramla in the chat :v
I don't know how to explain this... but since I had a talk with some old friends and schoolmates in the past week, I don't know how to concider a Anime Game like an anime game... and what it's an Anime Game...
For example... One of them asked me if mobil games like 'Guardian Tales' are anime games just for the ilustration in that some characters have in game, or if games like the 'Overwatch' can be taged like anime games only for its graphic style...
I don't know if I need to explain more about this xd... Hello again Cry

In fact, I've talked about this kinds of things with my several online friends who play anime games pretty much on PlayStation platform. We discussed in detail the definition of anime games.

One of my most conservative friends argued that no matter how much anime graphics a game is made of, it is only an anime game if the game is based on an anime series or at least a manga, like Naruto game. Meanwhile, I also asked other people and most people there did not express any objection to the definition of anime games if the game consists of anime graphics. Personally, with this strict rule from my conservative friend, I personally think anime games cannot develop any further.

Let's check out the Steam page for Super Mecha Champions. We can clearly see that it has an "anime" tag. For reference, the more users vote for this Steam tag, the better this anime tag comes out first in its store page. So, we can see that a lot of people voted anime tags for Super Mecha Champions games.

On the other hand, let's take a look at the Gundam Evolution released by Bandai Namco in Japan.

Unfortunately this game does not have the "anime" tag. That said, if you play the game yourself, you'll notice that there are no anime-looking characters at all. Let's think. If Fortnite, a popular video game in the West, makes an anime series in Japan, will the current Fortnite game become an anime game? I don't think It will be like that.

The important thing is perhaps that, when you play the game, you have to realize it is made up of anime art right away. I think how fast a user is able to recognize the game is whether anime game or not depends on how much the game's graphics are made of anime art. I personally think that is a key factor...

Therefore, I think that if almost all graphics of a game are made of anime art, I think it is safe to classify the game as an anime game. What do you think?

In my eyes, Overwatch is more of a cartoon-styled game rather than an anime. Similarly, Final Fantasy and Nier Automata, to me they all looked like a semi-anime or real-anime hybrid in my eyes. Definitely it's very hard to say for me that they are fully anime games, or simply anime games. But please make sure that it is just my personal taste lol.

Here is the some definition of anime art from Wikipedia...

One funniest thing we can see as of MAY 2023 is that even non-anime game like Smite started involving anime graphics into their games.

(I just remembered Fortnite did something similar to this by hiring Naruto)

I see lots of vtubers streaming the game out of it... If they put more of anime characters at half of maximum number of heroes (or gods by their in-game term) including potraits but not just 3D models, then I want to call this game as an semi-anime game. If more than 80% then I will call this game as full anime game LOL

I don't know, perhaps is this a sign of phenomenon that anime games will become more popular in the future due to Western investment into anime art?
