Introduction

FGC has been a term that has long since been used to signify esports and its excellence. It was and still is one of the oldest running and functioning esports meta. There are many reasons behind its success and prominence, but the most major is the presence of international tournaments which give the meta prestige. And of all the tournaments none has ever reached the level of fame and passion EVO is known for. Especially EVO Japan which acts as the start of a new year of tournaments and is regarded by many as the best esports tournament in the world.

EVO History

EVO more commonly known as The Evolution Championship Series, was first held in 1996 and went by the name Battle By The Bay. It only featured two games at the time, but with the progression of time and the advancement of gaming, we saw the rise of franchises that would go on to define whole generations. This is exactly why it has gained such infamy in many circles as the Japan version of the tournament is known for being a proving ground for many new players. Such as Oil King, Arslan Ash, Gobou, Xiaohai, Kjiro, Tonchan, and Gamera to name a few, who have established themselves as the best in their respective games. But now the stage is set for a whole new batch of gamers to rise from obscurity and take their place in the pantheon of legends, or will they succumb to the might of the old guard?

EVO 2024 is set to take place from 27th April to 29th April, and the venue will be Ariake GYM-EX. It is located in the Ariake district of Tokyo and can be easily transformed to fit over 1000 spectators and multiple participants. Which results in an electrifying atmosphere where the true spirit of gamers will be drawn out as they battle to their hearts content in Guilty Gear Strive, and Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising. We will also have the winners from the previous years competing to gain a chance to get a free pass into EVO 2024 which will be held later this year in the summer. On top of that, this time around there has been a major change to the whole format of the tournament, as all the games will have the same prize pool as each other. This means now there will be no discrimination of players based on the game they play. The prize pool due to this have also been increased to give players adequate motivation, the new prize pools are as follows:

• 1st Place wins 7,030 Dollars
  
• 2nd Place wins 3,163 Dollars
  
• 3rd Place wins 1,757 Dollars
  
• 4th Place wins 984 Dollars
  
• 5th to 6th Place wins 562 Dollars

Registration has also been streamlined this time around, as players can easily go to the online website of EVO and follow the proper process of creating an account and paying for the games they are taking part in. You can also go and register through the start.gg website as soon as they start taking registrations. This time the organizers will also be especially inviting winners from previous years to make the competition all the more exciting.
