It is without a doubt that Japan has played a pivotal role in the development of esports, either by creating some of the most played esports titles to date or by having one of the best esports teams in every single genre. This has led to the rise of the esports culture in many Japanese cities, which can easily be seen by observing the e-ZONe Hotel in Osaka. It is one of the very few dedicated esports hotels worldwide. Featuring three whole floors dictated to esports with the most cutting-edge PCs and the fastest internet in the market. The first and second floor is based on the fiery passion of esports and hence has the best equipment geared toward group play while featuring large screens for spectators to enjoy. In contrast, the third floor is based on the enjoyment of games and hence features equipment for solo or team play. Each floor is accented with RGB to give them that gamer feels and to make sure you don’t fall asleep, as they have dedicated floors for that, which feature rooms from single to combined, allowing even large groups to stay for when they have to compete in tournaments such as say, Eternal Return.

Eternal Return is a famous multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) survival video game. It is set in a post-apocalyptic world where players compete in fast-paced, strategic battles to control territories and resources. The game has gained a large following for its intense and competitive gameplay, deep character roster, and customization options that rival many of the latest JRPGs. Eternal Return also recently announced its official esports tournament season 8 to support its growing esports community, which is set to take place later this year. The tournament will feature top teams from around the world competing for a large prize pool that is said to be even bigger than last year’s $7,903 and the world champion title. Overall, season 8 of Eternal Return is set to be a landmark event and a must-see for fans of the game and esports in general.

Guilty Gear Strive is the thematic end of the series as it sees much of the main cast accomplish their goals and pass on the torch to the new generation. It also has managed to condense the systems of all previous games and combine them to provide maximum enjoyment. It features a roster with both new and returning characters, some of which still have the same move set from the previous games allowing the players meaning them to get into the action without delay, and with good reason, as Guilty Gear Strive has been selected as one of the main games at EVO Championship 2023 and is bound to have a higher prize pool then the measly $21,580 of last year. So if you are in the market for a fighting game, Guilty Gear Strive is the way to go.

Shadowverse is a hallmark in the esports industry as it is one of the market's largest card collector/ battler games, with a thriving esports scene. The base game revolves around a single core loop, building a deck, then using it to battle, then rinse and repeat. With each cycle, you will get to know the game better, start optimizing your deck, and slowly understand the meta. It also helps that the cards are beautifully animated and drawn in normal and evolved states. This level of player control and player set meta is why an esports community has grown around it. This community is also helped by the fact that there are multiple tournaments arranged for the game, such as Rage Shadowverse, which features unique rules and a massive $182,540 prize pool, which is sure to provide ample motivation for the competitors.

Kinosaki Onsen - Kinosakicho Yushima, Toyooka, Hyogo

Figure 4-1. Kinosaki Onsen

Nestled among the vast mountains of Hyogo Japan we have one of the most popular tourist destinations ever Onsens, but not some regular run-of-the-mill onsen we have one that has had a close connection to the game world since the early days of arcades. This is the Kinosaki Onsen, a traditional style onsen that specializes in rejuvenating baths, hot spas, comfortable lodging, and an action-packed trip through memory lane with the retro arcade where players can play some of the timeless classics from Japan’s past. This means that after a long relaxing bath in the rejuvenating baths of the onsen, you can fight to your heart's content on the many arcade machines or until you have the top score in every game. Or if you're feeling more adventurous and have a buddy you can always see who the best at Guilty Gear X2 is.

Figure 4-2. Guilty Gear XX

Released near the slow decline of the arcades, Guilty Gear X2 stands among the series with its head held up high as one of the last great arcade fighters to have ever been released before the age of the home console. It also happens to have one of the most robust roasters of characters not seen again till Strive. Mechanically the game lacks the sheer complexity Xrd introduced but despite that, the game feels and plays as smoothly as butter, it uniquely manages all the different characters and their playsets in such a way that there is not overlap in moves and uses. All in all, it is a phenomenal game that not only manages to be fun but also engaging at the same time.

Hotel Hillarys – Osaka

Figure 5-1. Hotel Hillarys

Nestled in the vibrant heart of Osaka, the Hotel Hillarys stands as a modern testament to comfort and convenience. While it doesn't boast the traditional onsens of Hyogo, it offers a unique blend of contemporary design and Japanese hospitality. Each room is a haven of tranquility, equipped with modern amenities to ensure a restful stay. Beyond the confines of the rooms, guests are treated to complimentary non-alcoholic beverages, a testament to the hotel's commitment to exceptional service. But what truly sets Hotel Hillarys apart is its gaming facilities. For those with a penchant for nostalgia, the hotel offers a selection of shounen manga, ensuring that guests can immerse themselves in Japan's rich culture. After a day of sightseeing, there's nothing quite like retreating to the Hotel Hillarys, where you can put up your feet and play Omega Strikers in peace and tranquility.

Figure 5-2. Omega Strikers

Omega Strikers, a game I'm sure you have heard about if you are in the MOBA or PVP gaming scene. For it has taken the world by storm, developed by ex-Riot game developers the game only has one purpose and that is to provide players with the most fun imaginable in a short gaming session. It accomplishes that by having one of the most varied and easily playable characters in the entire genre. This means that while you won't get the insane character count of League of Legends you will have a far better time with Omega Strikers as it is as simple as picking it up and playing. But don’t let that fool you as the game is deceptively more difficult than it lets on, and as you play and ascend the ranks you will start to see old strategies blend in with each other, which results in a game loop so addicting it will have you coming back for more and more. So if you are in the mood for a new MOBA that is shorter and doesn’t require you to learn the wiki by heart why not give Omega Strikers a shot, I am sure you won't be disappointed.
