Esports, a once niche hobby that was only held in small local tournaments, has seen a massive rise in recent years. Much of this can be attributed directly to the rise of gaming as a medium and its penetration of the mainstream. While tournaments of LOL and CSGO are the main face of esports now, we can’t forget the role fighting game competitions such as EVO have played in its success. One such competition that can match the infamy of West Coast EVO is East Coast's very own CEOtaku. An event that just so happens to be around the corner on the 22nd of September Friday at Wyndham Orlando Resort International Drive, 8001 International Dr, Orlando, FL 32819.

EVO is the first thing that comes to mind of any gamer when the idea of a fighting game is brought up and with due reason as it was one of the first ones to legitimize the fighting game genre in Esports. But despite that it only has focused primarily on games such as Tekken and Steet Fighter. Both pursue realistic graphics to bring in more players, and while yes it has brought anime games such as Guilty Gear Strive and DBZF to the center stage, they have always been an afterthought compared to the former. That is why in 2010 CEOtaku was established to not only promote anime games but also help grow and foster a community around these games. And what a job it has done, as now in 2023 it stands to rival the very tournament it was molded after. Starting with only Marvel Capcom 3 and 1800 attendants, the tournament now features a whole array of anime fighting games from the most bizarre to the most mainstream ones. Each game has a dedicated area assigned to it where players can not only watch the matches but also socialize with other fans of the game. Alongside the main appeal of the fighting game, CEOtaku also offers many side activities to part take in such as DDR Storm a mini competition of sorts for the Dance Dance games which provides the perfect exercise for gamers to get into the zone. Other than that, many different smaller events are also planned near the venue to give players the best possible experience.

Registration

As for registration, there are two main methods by which one can apply, one is the start.gg way where players can easily pick the games they want to take part in and also see which game will be held at which date, as the tournament will span the entire weekend. The other way is that players can go to the official site of the tournament and register there, a benefit of this method is that they can also book a room to stay at during the tournament via the site, but do make haste as the slots are limited. As for on-ground passes they can be bought at the reception of the tournament, but will not give the players rights to take part in the matches as for that you must register online.

To wrap it all up, CEOtaku is truly a haven for not only fighting game enthusiasts but also anime fans who crave a sense of longing and comradery.
