Among the mentioned games, I think the most popular one is probably Phantasy Star 2 New Genesis (PSO 2), so I'd like to share my thoughts on PSO2.

Actually, in the early 2000s, I played PSO1 quite a lot on Dreamcast and PC. That includes PvP games with friends, of course.
I also have fond memories of playing PSO2 on PC around 2012. Personally, I found PSO1 to be much more enjoyable than PSO2. It's probably because PSO1 was one of the first 3D MMORPGs to come out in the world, and I was personally a fan of SEGA consoles (I had the SEGA Saturn and Dreamcast).

I honestly felt that PSO2 PvP was cheap and its PvP matches felt somewhat lightweight. I personally wasn't a fan of progressing through the game with randomly dropped items on the ground. I think it would be better to introduce a kind of build system, like in Smite or League of Legends, where you earn income through killing other players and evolve your items into more powerful ones.

Alternatively, I think it would be a good idea to follow PSO1's approach and allow the use of items obtained through PvE in PvP arena.

About PSO1's PvP, I also didn't find it to be perfect or overly enjoyable 20 years ago, but I thought it was fine level to play with other friends, but definitely better than PSO2's PvP for me (especially because of weapon-swapping feature in PSO1 during PvP matches in order to cope with different situations).

* Just to mention, I have found out that PSO2 can also be played on my Steam Deck.
