3 Best RTS Games for Low-End PC 2024

Technological advancement in the gaming industry has been the secret to massive success and expansion to a billion-dollar industry. But alongside this advancement a new kind of problem has emerged, this being the need for stronger systems to render and play all the new games. While to many it might not seem that much of an issue, we still need to keep in mind video games are already a luxury item and a price hike at the moment of entry into the hobby seems to be a bit steep. But fret not as there are still many genres that cater to the low-end gamers, one of them being the RTS genre. Some of the best low-end games in the genre are as follows.

Table of Contents
  1. The Touhou Empires
  2. Star Maidens Chronicle: Definitive Edition
  3. Yokai Art: Survival Prologue

The Touhou Empires

Touhou is a name that in recent years has regained mainstream popularity and unlike the previous time, it seems to be in good faith. This is due to the recent success of the mainline games and their prevalence in the meme culture of the many groups populating the World Wide Web. Its recent prevalence is also why many more mainline games and spin-offs have been announced, one such spin-off that holds a great deal of promise is The Touhou Empires. A game that vows to be inspired by the likes of Age of Empire and StarCraft, both of which were classics of their eras. Neetpia the developer also seems to be fully committed to not only making a simple re-skin of said old games, but also to adapt the wacky and whimsical nature of the Touhou series to the tactical nature of old-school RTS games. Neetpia has also vowed to make the game optimized and accessible to all kinds of gamers by making it compatible with lower-end hardware. So If you wish to play an RTS game of yore with modern quality-of-life improvements then this game is for you.

Next, we have a game that instead of being inspired by the classics of old is a one-to-one remake of all those old systems but with new-gen graphics and quality-of-life improvements. It is none other than Star Maidens Chronicle: Definitive Edition, a game developed by PROJECT YNP and is poised to be the classic of the modern era. Why I hear you asking? Well, simply it is a complete advancement of the old mechanics that made the older RTS games such a blast to play. It also has a new and improved resource collection system that incentivizes player adaptability instead of hoarding, Meaning the AI of the game will create such scenarios in the match that the player will have to use their meager resources to ike out a win. Also, did I mention the game is optimized for lower-end systems ensuring that even the most potato system will be able to run it? So if you want to play the game then head on over to the Steam marketplace where it is exclusive.

Yokai Art: Survival Prologue

RTS has long since remained a genre that has seldom seen itself merged with other genres. Much of this is due to its tactical nature and the innate challenges faced when merging said nature with more action-orientated genres. But in the modern age, we finally have a few genres that form a perfect synergy with the RTS genre, one of these genres is Tower Defense. A prime example of the perfect unity between these two genres is Yokai Art: Survival Prologue. A game that is developed by Secret Labo and based on a generic story offers some of the most enjoyable gaming experiences in the RTS  genre. Also instead of keeping and choosing certain mechanics, takes the untraveled road and merges the mechanics from both genres to create an unforgettable experience. Also, did I mention the game is perfect for low-end systems as it requires only a core i3 and a minimum of 512 mb VRAM to run it? So if you wish to play this game then head over to its official Steam page as it is only available on Windows.
