Introduction

Esports has long since been the driving force for competitions focusing on new or under-represented niches. This is a fact that the gaming community has long since upheld with pride, for in gaming all are equal. But the aspect of competitive esports, while a major reason for the mainstream success, has long since been the gatekeeper for new and casual players. A sad reality that has only just started to change, due to the massive effort by the community as they have started to arrange casual tournaments where all you need to do is play. One of the major current examples of this is Setsucon, a once simple tournament, and get-together that has evolved into a major cosplay and esports tournament while not forgetting its roots.

Established at the tail end of the 2000s Setsucon started just as a simple get-together amongst enjoyers of anime and games, and over the years due to the dedication of the fans and the supporters it has grown to become an actual competitor to the highly acclaimed Anime Expo. However, it has never promoted any thoughts of rivalry amongst the conventions since the founding motto of the convention was the unity of the anime community. To that end, Setsucon has made great strides, by giving voices to the under-represented groups of the community and has also fostered a mixed community of both competitive and casual gamers. It holds dedicated competitions for some of the most famous esports of the current era, such as Guilty Gear Strive. Alongside that, it also holds casual game rooms where players can gather and use the most broken characters available to them such as Steve in Super Smash. Setsucon also holds multiple events ranging from panel discussions on modern anime topics and cosplay competitions to fan meet-ups.

I am sure after reading about all the different activities at the event you are dying to know how to register at the end, wait no more for I will explain it in detail. First of all, you can head over to the Setsucon official website where you can get an even more comprehensive schedule of all the events and their specific requirements. From there you can apply to gain one of three passes. All passes give equal privileges, but are limited to certain days, for example, if you only need to attend the event on Sunday then you can simply buy it for that specific day. As for competition entry, you will need to head over to their official start.gg page and apply there to entire for the esports and cosplay competitions.

Alas, if you are a fan who can not attend the event due to external forces then rest assured, that the event and its key moments will be broadcast live via their Twitch and YouTube channels. Organizers have also promised to livestream every single second of the esports matches so that players who could not attend the event can still join in on the festivities. Alongside that, they have also set up pot-cash prizes which ensures the larger the player pool the larger the cash prize for the winner.
