7 Best Anime Games to Play With Friends 2024
Gaming has always been a group activity from the early days of DnD to the modern FPS multiplayer market. It is always more fun, too, with friends than it is to play solo. But nowadays, with games requiring such demanding hardware and being so expensive, it is pretty rare that you and your friends can play the same game. But all hope is still lost as this list has compiled some anime games aimed towards Co-op players, whether locally or online. They are a mix of free-to-play and less demanding games. They are as follows.
Table of Contents
- Tower Of Fantasy
- Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising
- Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis
- Dragon Ball: The Breakers
- SoulWorker
- The Touhou Empires
- Trianga's Project: Battle Splash 2.0

After the massive success of 2020’s Genshin Impact, some imitators are sure to pop up. At first glance, it is pretty easy to say that Tower of Fantasy is just that, but when you give it some time and see the underlying foundation of the game, it is easy to say it is different in many regards. It is a fast-paced MMORPG where you take control of your player-made avatar and fight through hordes of enemies, dungeons, raids, and other players in the beautiful open world. The story is a mix of Sci-Fi and fantasy as you are a wanderer and can control a mysterious power source; this causes many factions to turn their eyes towards you to use you for their own goals.
The players can equip their characters with three weapons at a given time and change them on the fly. The core combat is rather simplistic, with one main attack button and a few secondary skills, but where it shines in the mechanics surrounding it, like the Phantasia state. Phantasia is the state in which time moves slowly, which allows you to execute quick maneuvers, and you can make a few fast attacks without risks and fire the discharge skill for free, which is unique to each enemy. Other than the story Tower of Fantasy has many different game modes which allow you to do many things, such as go on raids with your friends or go to a separate arena to challenge enemies. It is an entertaining and addicting game, and anime fans of MMORPG should give it a try.

The evolution of games is something that has occurred since the early days of gaming from 2D platforms becoming 3D, or the massive paradigm shift that led TPS games to adapt into FPS games. But in all of this fighting games have remained stagnant from a specific point of view. This is because the core of the genre was more or less unadaptable, and the only time a major change was tried to be implemented it caused the genre to lose its core characteristics. But while this might stand true for fighting games as a whole, it can't be said for games from a single series. And prime example of this is Granblue Fantasy Verses, or the latest release Granblue Fantasy Verses: Rising to be exact. This is because the new game is an improvement of the previous game in every single way, shape, and form. Much of this is due to the developers taking the criticism lobbied against the first game seriously, as all the issues have been mostly resolved from the game. Alongside that, the game now features a larger cast of characters and an even more in-depth tutorial mode, which to a veteran might be redundant but to a novice is a lifesaver. Also, did I mention it has been optimized for PvP gameplay meaning now you and your friend can finally decide who is the better player?

The Phantasy Star series has been SEGA’s golden boy MMORPG since the PS2 era, but it was unable to keep up with time, leading it to become a somewhat forgotten series. PSO2 New Genesis sets out to fix that with a whole new perspective. New Genesis is a complete reimagining of the original PSO2, meaning it has the same narrative, but everything else has changed. This includes everything in the playable areas, which have been changed from dungeons to a fully explorable open world, and the combat, which can most closely be compared to Sword Arts Online combat.
Combat is now based on six core classes, each with a different weapon and kit. It has also been streamlined to ensure the fresh players have a pleasant time in the early game, and veterans can go a bit wild in the end game. This combat is supported by a new open world that integrates the dungeons of the previous PSO2 base game to be seamless and open. With this, the battles now feel more dynamic as you can encounter enemies while out and about in the open world, and if you don’t want to fight, you can explore your own free will. With its low price tag of free, it is one of the best anime MMORPGs on the market.

Dragon Ball is a series that has always focused on bombastic fights and over-the-top power scaling. Yet this focus has caused us to lose the charm found by the earlier weaker characters from the original shows run back in the 80. So when Dragon Ball: The Breakers came out with the premise of playing as the weaker characters and finding a way to defeat the villains of the series, it was pretty surprising and refreshing.
The game’s story starts with us discovering that time seams are occurring and causing villains to pop up everywhere. Dragon Ball: The breaker is an online Co-op title where six civilian players and one villain player duke it out.
The gameplay reflects that we are civilians and can not fight the villain headon. We must run, hide and use distractions to complete our objects to escape and finish the villain. But you are not alone or completely defenseless; you have the aid of the other five players and can use specific skills to escape or stun the villain. As you play, you will fill up a gauge that you can use in times of desperation to power up and use abilities from the iconic characters to give your teammates time to flee or complete the objective. Dragon Ball The Breakers, with its iconic art style of the show and thrilling mechanics, are in for a grand time with your friends.

Long-winded lore and over-cumbersome mechanics have long since become the norm of MMOs. It is surprising to see a game like SoulWorker focus on fun hack-and-slash combat instead of a million different little mechanics to make the game feel different. Soul Worker is an MMORPG set in a destroyed world after a cataclysmic event; you can choose from various base characters with classes attached to them and customize your character. This makes your character feel unique and gives the devs time to flesh out each selectable base character's backstory. The art is also gorgeous, as it uses lighting and atmosphere to provide an end-of-the-world feel.
Combat is the game’s main focus; it is a hack and slashes fun, with a particular skill required to fight some of the more formidable enemies. You can use timed dodges to avoid enemies’ attacks. Regular attacks can be chained into different skills, which can later be combed into regular attacks.
This gives significant combat replayability as you can fine-tune your perfect attack pattern. The online features are also great; they allow you and your friends to form raid parties and even go questing in dungeons together. It is a fun game that changed older mechanics just enough to make them feel fresh while retaining their roots.

RTS is a genre that is near and dear for many old-school gamers, as it is responsible for some of the best memories they had when playing games as children. This is because of the immensely customizable options the games in the genre offer you when you start a new match. You could also create online game rooms for your friends to join as well. A tradition it seems will be carried forward with the latest entry in the RTS genre. It also helps that the game is being developed by Neetpia, who has expressed on multiple occasions that they are huge fans of the old-era RTS games. They have also expressed their intentions of basing the core mechanics of the game off those games of old. But that isn’t to say there won’t be any of the new quality-of-life features, and Neetpia also has major plans of incorporating major aspects from the Touhou franchise into the game. As of now the only thing we know regarding that is the fact they plan on linking it to a main-line Touhou game. Regardless for now we can rest assured that the RTS genre is not dying out any time soon, meaning we will still be able to play alongside our friends and then get mad at them when the strongest AI wipes our whole village while we are fighting over a sheep.

FPS is a genre that is known far and wide as it has sort of become the face of modern gamers. Many of the most famous games of the modern era are FPS, like Counter-Strike, Valorant, and the ever-famous Call of Duty. But what many of these games lack is a human factor or aesthetic to be more accurate. Many of them offer gameplay that is only marginally better than what came out a decade ago, and even that is starting to become rarer and rarer. But one game has managed to not only extract the pure essence of FPS games but has also managed to embody it when it was at its prime. This game in question is none other than Trianga's Project: Battle Splash 2.0, one of the most fun and vibrant FPS games on the Steam marketplace. Much of this is due to the highly stylized art style of the game and the perfect net code and gameplay optimization that allow for fast-paced PvP matches to occur without a single problem. So if you wish to play one of the best Windows exclusives with your friends then this game is for you.
