3 Best RTS Games Like Command and Conquer 2024

If you hear gamers talk about the age-old Command and Conquer every now and then, then I guess it’s safe to assume that there is something so timeless about this iconic RTS from Westwood Studios that it continues to appeal to gamers even to this day. While one may argue it’s equally outdated graphics, the good news is that there exist some best RTS games like Command and Conquer which bring the classic RTS elements from the original Command and Conquer game while also retaining a modern appeal visually. As such, in this article, we take a look at such three RTS titles.

Star Maidens Chronicle: Definitive Edition

The reason why Star Maidens Chronicles made it to the top of our list is simple: it’s everything Command and Conquer except that it’s not! In other words, playing Star Maidens is just like playing any typical Command and Conquer game but with entirely different sets of weapons, units, battle mechanics, and even the gameplay plot. As of now, it’s currently available to play on Steam.

Star Maidens is a classical RTS developed by Project YNP. In that, the game puts you in the shoes of the top leader of a selected civilization and your goal is to rise to the top of world leaderboards. To make things strategic, the RTS game puts at the player’s disposal a wide array of weapon types. From magic to guns, you’ve got it all!

Moreover, just like how the Command and Conquer’s online PvP feature made the game a timeless legacy, Star Maidens also showcases the support for competitive multiplayer matches between players; something only a select few anime-style RTS games are capable of.

In the realm of indie RTS games, there are merely a select few that make it to the mainstream library. And Terra Centauri: Last Stand is one of them. Often hailed as one of the best RTS games like Command and Conquer, Terra Centauri: Last Stand was developed by an individual on itch.io who goes by the name Ishmaru. As of writing, it is available to play on Windows.

Unlike Star Maidens Chronicles which supports online PvP, Terra Centauri is a complete offline single-player RTS experience. However, let that not dishearten you. While it may lack competitive multiplayer, this does mean Terra Centauri has nothing up its sleeves to offer its gamers.

Terra Centauri: Last Stands boasts a state-of-the-art bewitching lore that is alone enough to captivate players. In the game, players start by choosing one of the 2 factions: Valkyrie and Devourers. Valkyries are sentient beings artificially created by Originators whereas Devourers are extraterritorial beasts that purely survive on organic matter, including Valkyries.

As such, in the events that unfold, the result is an ever-ongoing war for survival where you equip your Valkyries from one of the many advanced military weapons and tech gadgets to defend against Devourers or you eat Valkyries if you so choose to shake hands with Devourers.

Geo Core Force

As mentioned above, there are only a select few indie RTS games that make it to the mainstream library. Like other games on this list of the best RTS games like Command and Conquer, Geo Core Force is one of those privileged titles. However, in my opinion, having been developed by the same developer as that of Terra Centauri: Last Stand, Ishmaru, might have definitely helped the RTS game to make it to the mainstream library on both Windows and Android platforms.

If you crave a true Command and Conquer experience albeit with a modern touch to graphics and visuals, Geo Core Force is the game to go for. Not only do you have a diverse cast of highly advanced military styles\ units and weapons to choose from, you also have complete freedom on the battlefield to command your Geo Core forces.

Like Terra Centauri: Last Stand, Geo Core Force is also a single-player RTS title with a rich narrative plot to drive the action. The game is set in the year 2068, a time when humanity is on the brink of total destruction and collapse.

You take control of one of the primal tribes where the last of humanity has reformed into and compete for what meager resources are left on Earth. This means that every stronghold is giving in their best to expand its reach all the while defending its stronghold. Amid such a dire situation, will you be able to successfully deploy real-time strategy and reign supreme?
