Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour Finals 2023-2024 Draws Near As Esports Teams Get Ready!
Figure 1. Dragon Ball FighterZ
Dragon Ball Z is a series whose impact on pop culture and media in general can not be understated as it is the series that not only introduced many to the medium of anime but also made the childhoods of millennials throughout the world better. But despite its major recognition and success it only has a limited number of games that truly capture the essence of its core power system. And none of them were able to impart the sense of high-octane action the series was known for, or so was the case until Arc System Works got their hands on the IP and created one of if not the greatest DBZ games since Badokai 3, Dragon Ball FighterZ. A well-developed and optimized game that translated the series' iconic Ki blasts and punches directly into the game allowing players to finally live out their fantasies of breaking the sound barrier by screaming and surpassing power level 9000. But an unexpected side effect of the high level of polish by the developers was the establishment of an esports meta around the game and while it has been five years since the game's release its effect on the industry are still as fresh as ever.

Key among them is the Dragon Ball FighterZ World Tour Finals, a series of separate tournaments that result in the winners competing in a no-holds-bar fight to determine the winners. It is by far one of the best-funded and advertised esports tournaments out there right now besides EVO. And currently based on the rules set forth by the organizers it seems six players have already qualified for the Finals. All six of the said players are winners from the Power Events, which are officially recognized Dragon Ball FighterZ tournaments such as the above-mentioned EVO and CEOtaku. And for this year it seems that of the six only three players are from reputed teams, while the remaining three are independent players.
Figure 3. Dragon Ball FighterZ Hikari
Of these six the two most popular players are Hikari and Yasha ( Solary Esports Team ). Hikari is the current reigning champion of EVO for Dragon Ball FighterZ while Yasha lost in the finals of said tournament but secured a place in the World Cup by winning the VSFighting XI. As for the remaining players, we have Garlic Bread from S-Tier Gaming and it seems he might be a dark horse in the race for 1st place as he also is ranked on the world leaderboard for online match wins. Lastly, we have WADE from NSxC a French-based Esports team that seems to have a rivalry with the similarly French Solary. But the true merit of said teams and their members is yet to be seen as the most recent news from Liquipedia Fighting Games states that only one more seat from the Power Events remains and that the remaining 4 slots are reserved for the best players on the global leadership board. But this year seems to be quite the interesting finals as we have Solary, S-Tier Gaming, and NSxC and their best members face off against the best independent players, only time will tell whether the team player wins or the lone wolf.
