Unveiling Exciting Plans of Eternal Return 2024: New Year's Skins and a Sneak Peek into the Future!

It's hard to believe only six months have passed since the official release of Eternal Return 1.0 and its departure from early access. In those brief six months, Eternal Return has not only met the expectations of its fans but has also caused massive waves in the esports scene, especially in Asia. It has accomplished the impossible by taking and holding players from League of Legends which has dominated the esports scene around the world, especially in Asia after the fall of World of Warcraft. But why wouldn’t it be as it provided players with not only a unique premise but also one of the best and most optimized esports games seen in years?

Some of the most prominent features of the game were its wide variety of characters which could easily fit into pre-organized classes. Yet also have the technical complexity to be played how the player wanted to. Alongside this large cast of characters was a story that unfolded like that of a Fromsoft game as small updates were added with new patches which not only fleshed out the story, the island where the game took place but also the main plot which for now seems to still be in its initial stages. However, according to the developers, they have large plans for the game and its narrative moving forward. An interview conducted with the directors at the tail end of 2023, managed to shed some much-needed light on how the development team viewed the success of the game and how they will work to make it not only a better game but also their goals for its esports potential. Some key points were brought up, such as their wish to make the game easier for new players whilst maintaining the technical depth of the game. Further additions to the esports game modes and roaster were also discussed, alongside cycles to ensure the game is not overloaded by massive content at one time. While it might seem fantastic in the short term, it can cause massive damage to the esports aspect of the game. Speaking of esports they also discussed ways to improve the system of the game to ensure players are matched with other players of similar ranking. This overhaul will also help new players differentiate between high-level and beginner-friendly lobbies and servers.

Of some of the changes mentioned above it seems, few have already been put into motion. As with the start of the new year, Eternal Return has announced some new skins for characters. Of the first ones to get them is the fan favorite Celine, who will be getting a new tropical getaway skin. Alongside this skin, from the patch notes we can see that the groundwork of the new tier system is already being laid. From their interview, it was made clear that the second season of Eternal Return will focus more on the esports and PvP aspects of the game. But that isn’t to say that the game will abandon its story and character aspects. Because we know for sure two characters whose concept art was shown in the last month of December are already in development and will be released sometime this year. But in the end, we can only wait and see what the future holds for Eternal Return as despite all the praise the real battle for the game will start now.
